Collaboration

The Studio is keen on collaborating with other designers: it's something we have always done, and we plan to continue to do so. We try to foster collaborations with sculptors, artists, landscape architects, as well as other architects. This philosophy, for example, is reflected in the collective approach to designing and producing the Beaumont Quarter, the multiple award winning and innovative housing development in inner-city Auckland. On this project, masterplanned by Studio Pacific, other designers were invited to undertake commissions for parts of the work. These included S333 in Amsterdam, Ian Moore in Australia, and Steven Tupu in New York. Working together, the whole project has become so much more than the sum of its architecturally challenging parts.

We have a number of other projects where we have enjoyed successful collaboration with other practices and disciplines. These include landscaping works such as CentrePort, Wellington, where we worked with landscape architect Wraight and Associates; and the Kumutoto project on Wellington’s waterfront, where we teamed up with landscape architects Isthmus to turn a asphalt carpark into a delightful water’s edge park for Wellingtonians to enjoy.

Major collaborative projects include architectural work undertaken with Peddle Thorp Architects in Auckland, such as the Lighter Quay North and Lighter Quay Halsey St Pavilions, as well as the Holiday Inn and Site 7 buildings in Wellington. We’re also in a team with Warren and Mahoney on some exciting new work at Wellington Airport, and are working on collaborative projects with exhibition designers for MOTAT in Auckland and the NZ Army in Waiouru.
