Deloitte Fitout, Wellington

Winner Silver BEST Award - Spatial Design (Office and Workplace Environment) 2007

This project consists of a new six-floor fitout in the recently refurbished and extended former Wool House. The building is a combination of castellated spandrels and bronze coloured window joinery in the existing building and full-height anodised aluminium curtain wall glazing in the new extension.  In addition, the external shear wall of the old building became a strong element in the interior of the new tenancy.  The idiosyncratic nature of the building means almost no two floors are the same yet there needed to be an overall consistency of character to the Deloitte levels.  Rather than compete with the complex materials and plan of the building, the fit out was kept simple with clear central circulation and restrained use of materials, detailing, joinery and colour.

The top floor, Level 16, is a dedicated client floor.  A generous reception area opens out from the lift core between two dark timber boxes and extends out to a view of the city beyond. An informal central hub area on each floor contrasts with the more functional working areas. Colour is used to create a den-like character to the hub. A typical working floor accommodates approximately 50 staff, including a number of hot-desking staff.  Workstations are standard rectangular desks with a custom-designed storage unit that acts as a screening device between workstations to create a sense of privacy.
