Top placed on new Airways Wellington Control Tower

A crane placed the top onto the new control tower at Wellington Airport on Tuesday morning.

Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture, the new tower appears to lean into Wellington’s prevailing northerly wind. Resting on base isolaters and incorporating the latest seismic engineering, it is designed to withstand severe earthquake shaking. Construction began in January 2016 and the next stage will see the building’s façade clad with aluminium and glass.
