Waterside Pavilions & Halsey Apartments
Following on from the creation of the masterplan at Lighter Quay in Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour, the Waterside Pavilions and the Halsey St apartments are designed to fit to the west of the central waterway. With a total of 129 apartments spread over four separate buildings, these buildings have been carefully crafted to make the most of their position in the site.
Located on the western edge of the waterway, the Waterside Pavilions comprise two-storey duplex apartments arranged in terraces, raised slightly up above the water. A smooth white rectangular form set with translucent glass balustrades, the apartments are framed by a dark trim that gives a hint of a European canal style. Water stairs, descending from the balconies, allow direct access for yachts or motorboats. The Pavilions also adjoin a central amenities building incorporating a residents gym, sauna facilities and a lap pool set down at water level, allowing views of the boating activity along the 90m-long waterway.
The Halsey St apartments are a compact series of smaller one- and two-bedroom apartments on the edge of the Lighter Quay development. The street faces of the buildings feature a floating white ring frame around the upper four floors, while the ground floors are recessed at street level. Within the buildings, apartments are arranged along slim paved internal lanes, lined with small trees and structured hedges, and are clad in pale weatherboard, with slatted screens in an orange-gold timber providing contrast and warmth.
