Deloitte Fitout, Wellington
Winner Silver BEST Award - Spatial Design (Office and Workplace Environment) 2007
Studio Pacific was commissioned to design this new six-floor fitout for Deloitte in the recently refurbished and extended former Wool House in central Wellington.
Paralleling Deloitte’s emphasis on quality and throroughness in their work, an immaculate attention to detail permeates the fitout, with apparently simple surfaces revealing their subtle beauty and solidity on closer inspection. On the top floor, a generous reception area features a custom-made feature wall, comprising square native timber panels angled to reflect different planes of light, that adds texture to the space. Client meeting rooms are separated by panels of custom-designed frosted glass, with slender clear strips allowing light through while maintaining privacy.
Each working floor is identified by a distinct, specially commissioned supergraphic of an aspect of Wellington, reinforcing a local identity that is meaningful but avoids cliché. A soft neutral colour palette with muted accent colours throughout creates a sense of consistency. An informal central hub area on each floor is outfitted in brighter colours to give it a more relaxed, convivial feel, with a mixture of tables, stools, chairs and soft furniture to create a working-style lounge. Workstations include a custom-designed storage unit that acts as a screening device and can be adapted to each staff member’s specific working style, allowing for a reasonably high-density workspace.
Native timbers are used throughout the fitout and views of Wellington are maximised, particularly in the reception area, which extends out to a captivating view of the city beyond.
