NGC Office Fitout, Wellington
A major energy infrastructure and services company, NGC wanted a bold look for its new Wellington premises. Functionally the fitout was required to be very flexible and facilitate movement between business units and project groups, promoting interaction and collaborative work.
The central feature of the fitout is a circular pod structure, repeated throughout the fitout. The core itself is formed as a circular pod, with a hard, shiny exterior and a brightly coloured interior that encloses kitchen and utility areas on each floor. Vertical cutouts and doorways in the shell reveal flashes of this bright colour. Each floor also includes smaller circular pods, similarly coloured with bright inners of red carpet and red suede, that act as informal meeting rooms, encouraging frequent collaboration between staff.
On the client floor on Level 8, the circular pod core encloses a waiting area within a bright red curving wall that forms a dramatic backdrop to the black furniture. The reverse face of the pod, forming part of the reception, is clad in a restrained dark timber, with vertical slits revealing glimpses of colour. A reception desk in cool blue-green glass and timber and pale terrazzo floors create a fresh, poised look. Meeting rooms with sliding doors and strip-frosted glass are arranged around the perimeter, allowing the reception to remain the focal point of the floor.
Arranged around a central core, the work floors are largely open plan, with desks in groups around the perimeter window edge. Glass screens and fabric-wrapped walls help to define the simple circulation route, provide power and data to the outer desks and give privacy to the work areas.
