Te Kōmata o te Tonga – Deep South

Studio Pacific has started collaboration with Victoria University of Wellington students and staff on a design-led research project to develop climate change adaptation strategies for Māori coastal farming communities in the Horowhenua.

This project is unique in that each of the three students carrying out the work is trained in one of Studio Pacific’s three key work types (architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture). This approach promises an interesting multi-disciplinary dialogue, ideally situated to grapple with a number of complex and overlapping issues.

The project team aims to present the work in exhibition and publication, highlighting ways in which design can be used not only to promote dialogue about climate change adaptation strategies in New Zealand, but also as a tool to shift mindsets about important issues in the profession, community and academia.
