Meridian Building earns New Zealand’s First 6 Star NABERSNZ Rating

The Meridian Building, situated on Wellington’s Waterfront, has become the first building in New Zealand to earn a 6 star NABERSNZ Rating.

As architects, Studio Pacific completed the Meridian building in 2013 with a 5.5 star NABERSNZ rating. The 6 star rating was recently awarded after a few minor adjustments were completed including improvement to the control of the backup heating elements for solar hot water storage. This is a significant achievement for the building owner Stride Property Limited and tenant Meridian Energy and confirms the value added by the combination of low energy design and design for sustainability and efficiency.

The building uses 78% less energy and 64% less water than other comparable office buildings, and makes use of a passive solar design, climate responsive dynamic facades, mixed mode ventilation, heat pump heating, active chilled beams, solar hot water, and an integrated building management control system to operate the active facades and environmental engineering systems.
