Wellington’s Aorangi House has received a Leadership in Sustainable Design & Performance Award in the Commercial category at the WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards.
A complete refurbishment of the building was completed in 2008 by Studio Pacific and Beca, who used an integrated design approach to give the building a new lease of life.
The project was praised for reusing an existing building structure, with the jurors describing Aorangi House as ‘a stellar example of how an existing building can be made energy-smart with integrative design and occupant engagement.’
This award validates sustainable refurbishment as a feasible alternative to the construction of a new building, while also offering the opportunity to save a considerable amount on energy and emissions.
