Studio Pacific is delighted to announce that the new Nelson Airport Control Tower has been awarded the Nelson Marlborough Architecture Award for Public Architecture.
The jury said in its citation “Air control is a critical service an air control towers have several very specific height, visibility and accommodation requirements. Studio Pacific has met all the required needs of Airways Nelson in a new control tower, but in doing so has also managed to rise to greater design heights. The six-level structure is a sculpted and tapered sentinel that stands proudly in the airfield surrounds. The connecting stair, however, wrapped on three sides with glass, is a celebration of lightness and an elegant counterpoint to the neighbouring terminal that was also designed by Studio Pacific”.
