Tauranga's refreshed Civic Masterplan formally adopted

On Monday, the Tauranga City Council Commissioners formally adopted the recently refreshed masterplan for the Tauranga City’s Civic Precinct led by Willis Bond and the Studio Pacific team. This masterplan encourages a new heart for the city while also providing greater recognition of the cultural history and significance of the site to mana whenua.

Studio Pacific Architecture is working with Willis Bond, Landlab, LT McGuinesss and Tauranga City Council in collaboration with representatives from Ngai Tamarāwaho, Ngāti Tapu and Te Materāwaho.

The refresh reflects the evolution of the Council’s strategy from 2018 to 2021 with 'not only a focus on the buildings but the activities that could be encouraged in and around them'. New facilities such as a civic whare (meeting house), museum, library, hotel and a performing arts and conference centre will transform Tauranga's CBD into a destination that supports community, culture and connections.
