Studio Pacific is thrilled that Weir House – William Weir Wing has been named winner of the Heritage Award at the 2023 Resene Total Colour Awards.
The winners of the 2023 Resene Total Colour Awards were announced at an awards evening at New Zealand Fashion Week in Auckland on 29 August 2023. The first event of this kind in four years, the annual awards drew a record number of entries this year, attracting both established and emerging designers from New Zealand and Australia.
The Resene Total Colour Awards were launched to encourage and celebrate excellent and creative use of colour, to showcase striking colour palettes and combinations and provide fresh inspiration across the architecture and design industries.
Studio Pacific's renovation and refurbishment of the William Weir Wing at Weir House in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington was named winner of the Heritage Award. Built in 1930, the William Weir Wing at Weir House is a three-storey Georgian style building that houses around 90 students. The accommodation building required comprehensive exterior maintenance, replacement of five bathrooms, a new heating system, fire compliance upgrades, alongside general painting and refurbishment to all stairs, corridors, bedrooms, and common areas to enhance the experience of living in a heritage listed building.
The jury's citation for Weir House reads:
“Generations on generations have loved to live here. A building that keeps so many memories needs passion, attention and continuity to take it forward to the next generation without losing the charm of the previous generation. Respecting the heritage details, the palette successfully ensures that this home away from home will be home sweet home for many more years, and students, to come.”
The project is finished in Resene Awash, Resene Black White, Resene Foundry, Resene Highland, Resene Sisal, Resene Smoke Tree, Resene Triple Concrete, Resene White, Resene Aquaclear and Resene Qristal Clear finishes.
