Julie Stewart on Closing the Gap: Studio Pacific’s Commitment to Gender Equity

Studio Pacific Principal Julie Stewart is one of several industry leaders featured in a new video released by Manatū Wāhine Ministry for Women, highlighting how organisations across Aotearoa are taking action to close the gender pay gap.

Produced in partnership with The Diversity Agenda, the video brings together voices from across architecture and engineering, including Josie FitzGerald (Aurecon), Jonathan Pooch (DETA Consulting), Helen Davidson (ACE New Zealand), Ewan Brown (Tennent Brown Architects), and Julie Stewart (Studio Pacific Architecture).

Julie reflects on the importance of collective action in creating more inclusive workplaces.

“I’m an architect, I’m not a diversity and inclusion specialist. So, being able to lean on and learn from the collective energy at The Diversity Agenda has been invaluable,” she says.

Studio Pacific has been a proud member of The Diversity Agenda since 2018. Studio Pacific has measured our Gender Pay Gap for a number of years, and now through this partnership, and our public reporting via the Mind the Gap registry, we publicly publish our data.

“We have a whole series of initiatives,” says Julie. “Supporting flexible working, supporting technology to allow people to work in different spaces and at different times. One of the really important things that we do is we spend time together having those hard conversations. We don’t shy away from it.”

At Studio Pacific, we have achieved pay equity for comparable roles. We remain committed to addressing the gender pay gap by improving representation and continuing to support equitable career progression across our team.

We’re committed to increasing representation across all areas of the practice, and to closing the pay gap for people in similarly sized roles, with similar skills and accountabilities, and who add similar value. This mahi is ongoing – and it’s made stronger through open conversation, measurement, and collective support.
