Timber Structure Rises at Museum Street

A visible milestone has been reached at New Zealand Parliament’s Museum Street building, with prefabricated timber structural frames being assembled within the tightly constrained central Wellington site.

Designed by Studio Pacific, the Museum Street building is part of a wider programme to increase resilience and support the long-term operation of Parliament through the development of its western precinct. Once complete, the new building will provide 5,800sqm of modern, flexible workspace for MPs and parliamentary staff.

The building is being constructed by LT McGuinness using prefabricated engineered timber, chosen not only for its structural performance but also for its low-carbon credentials. Timber components are manufactured offsite and craned into place with a high level of precision. The off-site manufacturing helps reduce waste, improve quality, and minimise disruption within the highly secure Parliamentary precinct.

This stage of the build marks an exciting shift, with the structure now taking shape above the construction site hoardings. For us, it is an exciting milestone in the realisation of Museum Street and the redevelopment of the Western Precinct at Parliament
