Architect

Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington

James is a registered architect with over seven years of experience in the architecture industry, specialising in education projects

James joined Studio Pacific in 2022 after working in a small Wellington-based practice for several years, where he was involved in all stages of project delivery for education, commercial, community, and residential projects.

James has a particular interest in education and public projects, stemming from his family background of teachers and his experience in designing schools. He understands how good design can positively impact users and learning outcomes within these spaces. This ties into his interest in sustainability through durability, ensuring that buildings, joinery, and furniture are fit for purpose, made to last, and can be adapted or repurposed as they reach the end of their life.

More recently at Studio Pacific, James has been involved as a project architect on a college technology block and a masterplan for a Kura, alongside other community projects. This builds upon his previous project experience in education projects, including building types such as cultural centres, classrooms, gymnasiums, halls, libraries, offices, and various infrastructure and weathertightness work.

James is passionate about all things craft and construction. Outside of the office, you will find him working on a variety of projects, from small vases, art, maps, and furniture to larger-scale joinery and renovations.
