Tauranga Library and Community Hub Achieves 6 Green Star Design Rating

The Library and Community Hub, within the Te Manawataki o Te Papa civic precinct, has officially received a 6 Green Star Design rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council, recognising world leadership in sustainability

Designed to serve as a cultural and civic heart for Tauranga, the project places sustainability at its centre. A mass timber hybrid structural system reduces embodied carbon and supports long-term environmental performance.

The design also incorporates:

— A high-performance building envelope, developed through façade optimisation, daylight modelling and thermal performance analysis, reducing operational energy demand and enhancing comfort

— Rainwater harvesting to improve water efficiency

— Responsible materials selection to reduce environmental and social impacts across the supply chain

— Climate resilience measures to ensure long-term adaptability

This achievement reflects a collaborative and values-led approach to design. We’re proud to be working with Tauranga City Council, Willis Bond, mana whenua representatives, NDY, Dunning Thornton Consultants, Beca, and a wide consultant team to realise this important public project.
