I tēnei Mahuru ka whakanuia ngā tau 50 o Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori.
I whānau mai i te ngākau whakahihiko, i te rangatiratanga hoki. I tīmata hei Rā Reo Māori kotahi i te tau 1972. Nō te tau 1975, kua tupu hei wiki katoa, he kaupapa kaha tonu e whakahoki ora ana i te reo Māori kia rere i ia rā i Aotearoa. He kōrero tēnei mō te manawanui, te aroha, me ngā reanga maha i whakapau kaha ki te whakaora, ki te tiaki i te reo.
Kei te noho puku mātou i tēnei wā, hei whakanui i taua haerenga tapu, me te hunga nā rātou te ara i whakatū.
I Studio Pacific, he wāhanga iti noa iho a Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori nō tētahi kaupapa whānui ake. Kei te tipu tonu tō mātou māramatanga ki te Reo me ōna tikanga, mā ngā hononga e here nei i a mātou, mā ngā kaupapa e kuhu atu nei mātou, me ngā pūrākau e tuku mai ana kia whakaarahia anō.
"E whakamahara mai ana a Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori ki a tātou, he mea hono piri tonu te reo me te tuakiri. He wā tēnei hei whakaaro ki te haerenga kua pahure, me ngā mahi nui tonu kei te haere ake. E mihi ana mātou ki te hunga me ngā kaupapa nā rātou te reo Māori i kawe mō ngā tau 50 – ā, ka ū tonu mātou ki te whakarongo, ki te ako, me te whakanui i taua taonga i roto i ā mātou mahi."
– James Wallace, Tumu Whakarae
Ko Te Reo Māori te manawa ora o te tuakiri me te kaha Māori. Ki te hunga i tū pakari mō te Reo Māori – me te hunga tonu e kawe nei i te reo ki ngā rā e heke mai – he mihi nui tēnei ki a koutou.
This September marks 50 years since Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori first began.
Born of activism, Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori began with a single Māori Language Day in 1972. By 1975, it had grown into a full week, a powerful, ongoing movement to restore Te Reo Māori as a living, everyday language in Aotearoa. It is a story of persistence, aroha, and generations of people working to revitalise and protect the language.
We are taking a quiet moment to acknowledge that journey, and the people who made it possible.
At Studio Pacific, Māori Language Week is part of a much wider kaupapa. Our understanding of Te Reo me ōnatikanga continues to grow through the relationships we hold, the projects we are part of, and the stories we are trusted to help bring to life.
"Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori reminds us that language and identity are deeply connected. It is a time to reflect on the journey so far, and the work still ahead. We acknowledge the people and the kaupapawho’ve carried tereo Māori forward for 50 years – and we remain committed to listening, learning, and honouring that legacy in our work."
– James Wallace, Managing Director

Te Reo Māori is the life force of Māori identity and strength.
To all those who have fought for Te Reo Māori – and those who continue to carry it forward – we mihi to you.
