This month, we mark 25 years of thoughtful, place-based design with Peter Mitchell – a Principal at Studio Pacific whose steady leadership and collaborative approach has shaped both practice and projects.
Peter joined Studio Pacific in 2000 and has contributed to many of the studio’s most enduring projects, including the award-winning Rāwhiti Bach and Sleepout, the Seatoun waterfront masterplan and Courtyard Houses, Kumutoto, He Tohu Exhibition, Ormiston Town Centre, and more recently a number of community housing projects such as Niger Street for Kāinga Ora and Pirangi for Tāmaki Regeneration Limited.
A registered architect with a background in urban design, Peter works across architecture, landscape and the public realm – helping lead the studio’s integrated approach to place-based design. He has a particular strength for navigating complex, multi-layered briefs and brings a deep sensitivity to the way projects relate to their context.
Within the studio, Peter is a steady presence – thoughtful, generous, and trusted by clients and colleagues alike. He offers quiet clarity in design discussions and provides guidance that supports teams through every phase of a project, from early strategy to built outcome.
Peter continues to play a key role in shaping the direction of Studio Pacific’s urban and architectural work. His projects reflect a commitment to enduring quality, and his mentorship continues to support the development of future design leaders within the practice.
Ngā mihi nui, Peter – thank you for your dedication, your calm leadership, and the many ways you have helped shape the studio over the past 25 years.
